“Fill-A-Backpack” Campaign in Full Swing

With the Christmas holidays upon us, the Upper Room Mission is once again gearing up for our busiest time of year. Our popular “Fill-A-Backpack Campaign” is now up and running, and filled backpacks may be dropped off by Wednesday, December 20th at the Mission. This campaign means so much to those that access our services, and in many cases, these backpacks are the only gift they will receive this Christmas.

Please first decide whether you would like to provide a backpack for a man or woman, and clearly label your backpack accordingly. We try to ensure that the contents of all the backpacks are the same, so here is a list of suggested items to help you out:

  • Warm gloves, scarf, and/or toque
  • Hand Warmers
  • New Socks
  • Small notepad & pens
  • Flashlight
  • Toiletry items (Travel size is best): shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, Kleenex, Band-Aids, First-Aid kit, chapstick, etc.
  • Hard candies

We kindly ask that you do not include items such as alcohol, gift cards, or any perishable food items. As per tradition, we will be distributing the backpacks at our special Christmas Eve dinner on Friday, December 22. Again, please be sure to drop your filled backpack to the Mission, located at 3403 27th Ave. by Wednesday, Dec. 20. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Thank you for making Christmas a little bit brighter for those less fortunate in our community.
