Director of Food Services
Pete Lea began his career as a chef in England, where he spent four years studying culinary arts and hotel management before carrying on with his education in Bordeaux, France.
After emigrating to Canada in 2000 and continuing to work in restaurants in Kimberley BC, Pete often thought about doing his part making food for those in need at Christmas. But he was a father of three young children and his restaurants were always so busy that time of year.
So, a few years after moving to Vernon in 2007, Pete saw an ad for a Food Services Manager at the Upper Room Mission, and applied. He was hired. Where Pete once had limitless budgets for high end dining, he now enjoys the challenge of juggling donations and small budgets to provide healthy meals to hundreds every day.
In addition to cooking and planning menus, Pete overseas a team of eight volunteers who help make the Mission’s three weekday meals happen.
