Thankgiving 2022 at the Upper Room Mission

Giving thanks with a beautiful meal for our guests

We are entering the fall and winter seasons after summer has just ended, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Given all that has happened this year, we are planning to provide a special meal to our guests. Are you willing to help us?

Thanksgiving is a special time of the year in which we give thanks for all that God has provided for us. For the Upper Room Mission, I think of the various partners like Superstore, Salvation Army, Cobs Bread, Shoppers Drugmart, Walmart, Starbucks and Specialty Foods who have supported us on a weekly basis to ensure we provide food security for people in need. I also think of all the other small businesses and individuals (you know who you are!) who have donated their resources to support the mission. A big thank you to you!

I think of all the volunteers who committed their time to help us at the mission in the day-to-day tasks of providing meals and clothing as well as sorting, stocking shelves and cashiering at the Boutique. A big thank you to you!

I also think of all the local community organizations and foundations that have come alongside us in helping us with kitchen equipment, food supplies, clothing racks and other necessities we had to enhance our services at the Mission. I think of the Silverstar Rotary, Kalamalka Rotary, North Okanagan Community Foundation, and Foord Family Foundations, you have been a great support to our community. A big thank you to you!

As I look at this Thanksgiving, there is a lot to be thankful for, but for many of our guests, it remains a challenging year of life on the streets, in their cars, or in the shelter. The last homeless count reported that there are now close to 100 individuals living rough and unsheltered lives. This breaks my heart.

To give a little sunshine to each of our guests, we would like to provide a big thanksgiving dinner with turkey and ham and all the fixings. We want to go all out to make this a special meal for them. The dinner is planned for Friday, Oct 7, starting at 2:30 pm.

Will you help us!

Everything we do is only possible with the help of compassionate Vernon community members- people like you! You can help someone that is facing a difficult time in their lives with the gift of a warm meal. You can do this very simply online, here on our website, by clicking the link below. Thank you in advance for your help!

Our goal is to cover the cost of the thanksgiving meal and support the ongoing need for meat protein for our meal services. Meat has been in short supply at the mission and we hope that this short campaign for thanksgiving can give us the resources we need to serve people in need.
